Inhaltsangabe: In this age of high-profile corporate foundations and socially responsible companies, the barrier between the nonprofit and business worlds is more permeable than ever. Nonprofits and Business assembles diverse researchers to examine nonprofits from commercial, economic, operational, and legal perspectives. As the government and the public have demanded greater efficiency from nonprofits, nonprofits have looked to corporations to find creative ways to raise money and demonstrate effectiveness. Nonprofits and Business is a unique resource on this emerging trend.
About the Author:
Joseph J. Cordes is a professor of economics and public policy, public administration, and international affairs at George Washington University. Previously, he was a Brookings economic policy fellow in the Office of Tax Policy in the U.S. Department of the Treasury and served as a senior economist on the Treasury's tax reform project in 1984. He was also deputy assistant director for tax analysis at the Congressional Budget Office, a visiting fellow at the Urban Institute, and a member of the research advisory council at the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise. His current research focuses on state and local tax policy, the economics of nonprofit organizations, how public policies intended to mitigate the effects of natural hazards affect economic development, and various aspects of state and federal tax policy.
C. Eugene Steuerle is a senior fellow at the Urban Institute and codirector of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center. He is also the author, coauthor, editor, or coeditor of 11 books and close to 1,000 reports, articles, columns, testimonies, and reports. Among many other positions, he has served as deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for Tax Analysis (1987 - 1989), president of the National Tax Association (2001 - 2002), chair of the 1999 Technical Panel advising Social Security on its methods and assumptions, and president of the National Economists Club Educational Foundation. Between 1984 and 1986, he served as Economic Coordinator and original organizer of the Treasury s tax reform effort, for which one top Treasury wrote that 1986 tax reform 'would not have moved forward without your early leadership.'
