Inhaltsangabe: The first volume of Box Brown's new ongoing anthology series, Number! This includes two new stories, Kayfabe Quarterly, and The Documentarian. In Kayfabe Quarterly, a young fan's run-in with legendary wrestler Diamond Dick Corduroy causes him to re-examine his life and soon sets him on the path of creating his own 'zine, Kayfabe Quarterly. And in The Documentarian, we get a brief look at the life of a documentary filmmaker.

Rezension: Brown's artwork really brought this story to life. Brown's artwork reminds me of Seth and Joe Matt's art. There are these beautiful splash pages--like the one above--in which allows Brown to give the reader a wealth of information without overloading us. One page that really caught my eye was a single splash of Virgil's head who has the look of someone who has too much in his mind. There are multiple lines connecting from different parts of his head. Each line has a circle and within the circle has characters that Virgil has strong relationship with. I thought this a wonderful way to give a wealth of information--what's bothering and taking a toll on Virgil--without overloading us with panels. --Larry Vossler, The 9th Blog

What makes Box Brown's remarkable Number 1 so powerful is the same thing that makes Leeroy and Pepo so compelling: in this slim story, Brown creates a full world. It's a world all Brown's own. It's a world that seems simple, brief and shallow when you first glance at it but that has remarkable depth, complexity and power the more you think about it. --Jason Sacks, Comics Bulletin

The drawings and the narrative are aseptic and sometimes unsettling, with round heads that recall aesthetically The Peanuts but who are the protagonists of complex and sometimes raw stories. Brown doesn't try to attract immediately and to please the reader, but he conquers him thanks to a personal and well-defined style that is growing comic after comic. --Gabriele Di Fazio, Just Indie Comics
