Inhaltsangabe: Color zings through the pages and pierces through the eyes of readers in this explosive collection of Mauren Brodbeck’s diverse artworks. Brodbeck, an artist from Geneva, defies categorization, and works within and between genres of photography, collage, graphic design, and installation. Her mutilayered and polysemic images exist outside of time and space, while remaining grounded in the familiar urban landscape of a warehouse, a house, a parking lot. The energetic colors which she applies to our world both obscures and monumentalizes the otherwise banal elements of daily life. Her work also presents a dialogue between presence and absence, in the transformation of human figures into quasi-silhouettes and dimensional cut-outs. Œuvres is a colorful, exuberant journey through ten years of Brodbeck’s career, and allows a spiritually-infused discovery of art which flies beyond boundaries.
Brodbeck most recently showed in a series of solo exhibitions entitled MOOD MOTEL. The show opened at the Andata.Ritorno Laboratory for Contemporary Art in Geneva in March of 2016, and in her characteristically interdisciplinary style, explores the experiences of a city’s faded glory and the passage of time.
From the Author: "My ultimate inspiration is identity. Our rapport with the world around us, the contrast of our urban spaces in comparison to our physical beings, how as individuals we have created a mass culture. I’m also fascinated by identity through portraits, specifically adolescence as it a delicate time where we become ourselves or rather lose ourselves. My photos are an attempt to highlight the multiple faces of identity."

Buchbeschreibung Drago, Originalhardcover. Buchzustand: Gut. Ca. 160 S.; illustriert. 27 cm. Gutes Ex. - Englisch; franz. - . Mauren Brodbeck is not just a photographer, painter, filmmaker, interior designer or creative director. She combines all of these roles, drawing on this palette of experiences as she transmits, with a watchful eye on her environment, the innumerable facets of contemporary society. In a true balancing act, she seeks freedom in space, needs oxygen, desiring to show, transform and create "something else". She doesn't hold back as she uses photography, a multitude of monochrome, computers, mise en scène, erasure and all the tools available of our time - all the better to show us that less is more. Before moving on to rapid professional success, Mauren underwent training at the College de Saussure in Geneva in modern languages and visual arts, and the Vancouver Film School in British Columbia, where she studied film production and distribution. She produced her first photographic image in 1986, working on various film productions while photographing concerts, musicians and fashion, before turning her attention to the process of killing the image within the image. She composed and decomposed, rebuilding her environment from the horizontal to the vertical according to angular variations, depths of field, and her desire to geometrize nature. She wiped out the third dimension to show us an illusory place where space, time, light, color, dispel daily concerns and suspend the enigma of forward movement, of a hereafter, of becoming. While we are naturaly endowed with a stereoscopic vision that encourages understanding of shapes and distances, monovision is more two-dimensional, it is the vision of one-eyed optics. Do the gymnastics. Reality = Space-time of a glance. A glance that captures sights, smells, sounds, touch and taste in the pursuit of appearances, of traces, of movements. Fiction = I dreamed it before seeing it. Imagination that diverts reality on its own behalf. And as Bernard Lamarche-Vadel writes, "which is invisible remains the dessert of the great artist". Creativity, be it artistic, visual, literary, musical, architectural, takes us on unusual journeys - off the beaten paths of conventions and norms. Paper, in all its forms, naturally leads art lovers to take interest in etching, drawing and photography, guided by attraction, intuition and a certain taste for this material. Photography is an art form exclusively of light. It frees itself from its duty to reality and brings us a power that lives no longer in realist narrative. It insulates and agitates with a certain aplomb, offering us another representation, the one that the artist reveals.
