The convention aimed to resolve conflicts over Spanish harassment of British ships and territories in America. The author dissects the convention article by article, highlighting concessions made by both sides. Spain agreed to pay compensation for damages inflicted on British merchants, while Britain agreed to suspend hostilities and negotiate outstanding issues. However, the author argues that the convention ultimately favored Spain, with Britain making significant concessions and failing to secure guarantees against future harassment. The author concludes that the convention exposed Britain's diplomatic weakness and did little to protect its interests or uphold the rights of its merchants and colonists in America.
