He was known as a successful tragic poet, considered superior to Voltaire in his time by many, sparking a rivalry between the two authors. An ironic poem titled Éloge de Crébillon, which appeared in the year of the poet's death, was generally attributed to Voltaire although the denied authorship.With a notice on Crebillon's life to vol.
