A beautiful Zaehnsdorf-bound collection of the works of important French dramatist Pierre Corneille. Richly illustrated with plates. Pierre Corneille was a French tragedian and dramatist writing in the seventeenth century. Along with Racine and Moliere, the trio are considered the three greatest dramatists of seventeenth century France. Cardinal Richelieu was his patron, and his works include 'Le Cid', 'La Mort de Pompee', 'Andromede', 'Cinna' and 'Clitandre'.Bound in a beautiful fine binding by Zaehnsdorf with gilt detail to the spine and borders, marbled edges and endpapers.With a prize bookplate from Malvern College in Latin dated 1868.Illustrated with twelve plates.In the original French language.A beautiful copy of Corneille's plays. In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart; a little rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, extremities and joints. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, binding remains generally firm, with slight straining to the front hinge, which remains firm. Pages are occasionally a little spotted, noticeably to plates. Very Good.
