Offer a Flower to a Bee is an enchanting, beautifully illustrated adventure for children ages 6 to 12 — a heart-warming tale of courage, curiosity, and caring for the natural world.

When siblings Leah and Theo arrive on the sunlit Greek island of Poros to spend the summer with their beloved Grandpa, they expect lazy days exploring lemon groves and turquoise coves. But something feels wrong in this paradise: the gardens are strangely silent. No gentle buzzing drifts over the thyme and wildflowers. The bees have vanished.

Soon the children stumble onto a mystery hidden in the island’s rocky hills and ancient chapels. Grandpa shows them a weathered map marked with secret springs and forgotten vents — once the lifeblood of the island’s fields. But many water channels have been sealed, and greedy hands seem to be stealing the island’s life for private luxury villas. Without fresh water, the blossoms fade… and without blossoms, the bees cannot survive.

Leah and Theo follow whispers through olive groves, dusty chapels, and moonlit mountain paths. They meet Father Nikolaos, who guards old ledgers and lost rights to the water, and brave teacher Miss Eleni, who refuses to let the island’s heritage disappear. But when their only map is stolen and strangers in dark SUVs start watching, the siblings must find courage they didn’t know they had. With quick thinking, friendship, and the help of the island’s villagers (plus a few mischievous goats with jingling bells!), they uncover the truth — and fight to bring the waters, and the bees, back to life.

Through lush, Mediterranean illustrations and a thrilling, mystery-tinged plot, Offer a Flower to a Bee shows children the deep connection between water, flowers, and pollinators — and how even the courage of children can protect fragile ecosystems. It celebrates teamwork, bravery, and love for the land, inspiring readers to care for nature in their own backyards.

Perfect as a bedtime read-aloud or an independent adventure for early and middle-grade readers, this story blends Greek island charm, gentle suspense, and ecological wisdom into a memorable summer journey. Young readers will finish the book believing that one curious child — or two — really can make a difference for the earth.

If your family loves nature adventures, clever mysteries, and tales that spark eco-awareness, Offer a Flower to a Bee will become a favourite on your shelf — a book to return to each spring when the first flowers bloom and the gentle hum of bees returns to the air.
