Half brown calf/brown cloth binding, bound by Hatton of Manchester, four comedies and a tragedy in one volume including The Old Batchelor, The Double Dealer, The Mourning Bride, Love for Love and The Way of the World. Gilt title on red label, 5 raised bands with blind tooling separating 6 compartments, 5 of which have blind tooled detail. Pagination: iv, Dedication to Lord Clifford (page numbered 72), [v-xi], 12-82pp, 1 page Epilogue, 1 blank ; [13], 14-87pp, 1 page Epilogue; [9], 10-103pp; [9], 10-67pp, 1 page Epilogue; [11], 12-92pp, 2 page Epilogue. Tear with loss to the margin of page 101 in Love for Love, without impacting any text; closed tear to page 33, 34 of The Mourning Bride impacting the text, without loss. The title page for The Old Batchelor is darkened. Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles on brown label with gilt decoration to the panel, 5 raised bands with blind tooled decoration separating 6 compartments, 5 of which have blind tooled decoration, gently worn top and tail with a small scuff to the leather at the top of the spine. Joints good condition sound, gently rubbed. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition half brown/brown cloth boards with blind tooled lines separating, there are a couple of scuff marks at the top of the front board where the leather joins the cloth, the rear board also has some of the leather missing in the bottom left hand corner together with some spotting. Page edges good condition top edge slightly darkened, all pink. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition plain green, front paste down has the book binders label in the top left hand corner. End papers good condition plain green, internal free end papers are tanned with some foxing. Title good condition there are in fact 4 title pages, all of which are tanned and foxed. Pages good condition 4 comedies and one tragedy in one volume including The Old Batchelor, The Double Dealer, The Mourning Bride, Love for Love and The Way of the World, pages are tanned and foxed throughout.
