The book also examines each post's history and provides directions to even those that are very hard to find. Indian trading posts are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Although many still occupy the original buildings from the 1800s, and some owners have resisted complete modernization of their stores, few of today's so-called trading posts bear any similarity the real working trading posts of the past.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Richard C. Berkholz, a native of Missouri, is retired after 34 years in the forestry profession. He currently lives in Durango, Colorado, with his wife Judy. His interest in western history and appreciation of the high desert southwest, combined with his realization that most of the old trading posts in the Four Corners area are rapidly disappearing, led him to write this book.
