[8] with additional engraved title page, 242pp, [2], 8pp, bound in full brown leather, with gilt illustration of an elephant bearing passengers, on the covers, along with a gilt spine illustration showing a camel and elongated palm tree, gilt still bright. Covers also bear four blind stamped snakes, coiled in each corner. With engravings from drawings by William Daniell, with 20 (of 22) engraved plates present. INTERESTING OWNERSHIP, with an armorial bookplate reading : The Ogden Arms / Granted to John Ogden Esq. by King Charles the Second / For His Faithful Services to his / Unfortunate Father , Charles the First." With the following ownership signatures *Maria T. Ogden and *Henry C. Corbit. / to his / dear daughter Emma / Paris 12mo 14th 1837. Henry C. Corbit was a Philadelphia City Legislator, a member of the Society of Friends, and noted traveller / association to the Quaker Ogdens. Covers show edge/corner wear, with upper backstrip edge tender, the binding is tight, but book detached from the covers, and would be an easy repair. Buchnummer des Verkäufers

Bound in brown leather with gilt elephant decoration on the front and back, blindstamped patterns, gilt title and further decorations on the spine. Very attractive though some wear around edges and spine. Gilt closed page edges. Hinge a little fragile, illustration opposite page 38 loose but present. No foxing, some brown spots here and there. Twenty-five engravings from the drawings of William Daniell, all illustrations and tissue-guards present oval "property of" stamped sporadically, but never over the plates. A lovely copy. William DAniell (illustrator). 1st Edition. 22 engravings,297p, i, 2pp publisher's ads. original olive brown full morocco gilt blocked with the characteristic and striking elephant with mahout and two other figures to both boards within a border of blind stamped snakes. all edges gilt, some darkening of leather from use of leather polish but a decent copy, hinges weak and front hinge with some old tape repair, some browning and offsetting to plates. Armorial bookplate of James Garner to front pastedown together a later ownership presentation. A complete copy with all plates as listed. These large paper copies should not be confused with the normal smaller copies. The only difference in the binding is that the large paper copies do not have the flat spine with a camel decorating them but have a simple title in gilt and raised boards.The illustrations in this year [publication ceased after 1840] include some of Muscat, Bombay, and Delhi. The Oriental Annual is the second of a planned three volume set containing descriptions of the three English Presidencies in India. The first covered Madras, this volume describes Calcutta. Ultimately seven volumes by the author with illustrations by Daniell were published. Dedicated to the then-Princess Victoria and her mother, the Duches of Kent. Text is clean, tight and undamaged, no foxing Front hinge cracked but holding. Oriiginal blind -stamped with a pattern of coiled snakes surrounding a gold-stamped imaged of three men riding an elephant, Gold stmped title with palm tree and camel on spine. Pigskin leather boards in VG condition with slight loss along edges. Gilt edged pages. Previous owner's name in pencil plus binders' stamp on front end-papers. Presumed First. Stamped Leather.
