Kaines-Smith was the first official lecturer at the National Gallery in London, and after a short stint lecturing at Cambridge, he directed the City Art Gallery in Leeds, before he was appointed keeper of the City Museum and Art Gallery in Birmingham. Externally, generally smart. Calf is a little faded towards the joint of front board and the leather at the spine is has a few scuffs. Some minor wear to the extremities.
