Two pages of photos taped together, each page 12½ x 9½ inches. Light wear to lower edge, old tape loosening. Very good. A two-page photo roster of the 150 members of the segregated Provisional Tank Battalion 3rd Armored Group, 3rd Armored Division, Company "C", plus their eighteen officers. Fort Knox was long home to heavy artillery and armored units. The base began as a general camp near the end of the first World War in 1918, and in 1921 was converted to a training ground for artillery and infantry units. Fort Knox became the headquarters of the Armored Force beginning in 1940 and specialized in armored vehicle training for the next several decades; the final tank at the military base was decommissioned on August 22, 2020. Executive Order 9981 ended segregation in the armed forces in 1948, making this one of the last officially segregated units active in the U.S. Military, although the actual work of integration was not completed until 1954. The photographs were produced by Woltz Studios in Des Moines, Iowa (some 600 miles from Fort Knox, Kentucky), which is still an active photo studio. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers WRCAM57171
