No author. No place. No date. Forty-one pages and numerous photographs. (5 by 8 inches). ***CONTENT: This antique pamphlet, likely intended for college athletes, outlines football techniques and tactics for success on the gridiron. Although it mainly provides guidance for the quarterback, the volume also gives coaching directions for the center, runners, and other players. Chapters describe "receiving the ball from the center", "forward passing", "drop-kicking", "catching punts", "blocking", "tackling", etc. Many photographs illustrate the written directions. ***HOW OLD IS THIS? From the look of the uniforms and the players, it's OLD. Consider the antiquated advice in the text - "Kick on first down if possible" or "when passing, the ball should rest on the palm and not be grasped by the fingers" or "when tackling, use the "Indian interference" (see photo). The footballs shown in the photos are more round in shape; in 1934, the ends were made more pointed. I surmise this pamphlet was published in the 1920's or before. ***CONDITION: This book is VG and bound in the original tan stiff-paper wraps, with printed title on the front wrap. Save for mild wear, the wraps are well preserved; cover lettering bold and bright. Paper backstrip mostly complete. Covers well attached, binding very firm. The text pages and illustrations are typically fresh, clean and bright. No previous ownership indications. I could find no reference to this publication on WorldCat or elsewhere online.
