[FIRST EDITION] London: Chapman and Hall, 1876. Four volume set, bound in brick-red silk-grain cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Possible publisher variant binding as this set differs from other listings and yet binding appears to be original. First edition in book form. No half-titles called for. Soiling and rubbing to covers, text lightly foxed with minor staining in scattered areas. Some hinges split (but holding); early bookplates to front paste-downs and ffep of each volume (causing puckering to later.) Ownership signature and small circular stamp on each volume. Volume 4 spine darkened with slight loss to gilt title. In all, a very good copy of one the great Palliser novels. The Prime Minister was never reprinted in this four-volume format. NOT EX-LIBRARY.
