Printed by Jane Aitken for Patrick Byrne and Mathew Carey. 1803, 377 pp, 8.25 x 5.25 , 8vo, full leather hardcover. Volume I only. As-is, with front cover detached. Tears and losses to end pages at front and back of book. Loss of binding at head and heel of spine and wear to title label. Remainder of text block remains bound well with minor wear. Staining to pages throughout. Light marginalia and markings at front. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce piece printed by Jane Aitken (1764-1832), one of the first female printers in the United States and the first to print an English translation of the Bible. Volume II of this work would later be printed by another publisher. A wonderful and significant piece of female entrepreneurship in America and an excellent piece for restoration.
