It is an earnest attempt of eleven devout Buddhist scholar s to describe the beliefs and practices of the Buddhist world twenty-five centuries after the Buddha. The need for such a book grew out of conversations among fellows of the National Council of UAS on Religion in Higher Education. It was agreed that a fuller understanding of the leading non-Christian reigions requires books written by men speaking from the point of view of their own faiths, and edited by a Westerner to make the meaning clear to readers brought up in the Greek-Hebrew-Christian Tradition. Bhikhu J.Kashyap of India has contributed the first chapter on the origin and expansion of buddhism. U.Thittila of Rengoon wrote the second chapter on the fundamental principles of the Theravada Buddhism. Balangoda Ananda Maitreya of Ceylon who wrote the third chapter was recommended as a man who can speak for all Thravada countries.(Publisher). 8 3/4" X 5 3/4". x, 432pp. Wear to unclipped dust jacket with rubbing and toning to covers. Co-owners Josh Niesse and Megan Bell met in 2011, just 10 days or so after Josh opened the doors of Underground Books, literally underground, several steps below street level in a 100-year-old basement in our historic downtown. Megan, an English student at the University of West Georgia, walked in, fell down the rabbit hole, and never left! Reader, we married in May of 2014, under the book arch that now resides at the bookshop. We are both proud alumni of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS), and Megan additionally of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and of the ABAA Women’s Initiative Mentorship Program. Like many booksellers with open brick-and-mortar stores, we are passionate generalists, but our specialties are in decorative publisher's cloth bindings; fairy tales, folklore, and mythology; popular science and natural history; the occult; and fine press books.…
