Florence Young [1856-1940] was born in New Zealand the daughter of Plymouth Brethren émigrés from England. She was sent back to England for her education and, following the death of her parents, she moved to Queensland, Australia. Deeply influenced by her Brethren upbringing, and by the teaching of the Keswick Convention, she began a work among the Melanesians in Queensland and later in the Solomon Islands.
