Giannetto is a young noble of Florence who, bankrupted, comes to Venice to fine his rich merchant godfather.It's said that 'Il Pecorone' was an influence on Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice'.Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I.Written by Giovanni Fiorentino, a Florentine writer known for this work.Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper of Volume I, 'G. Hainsworth 1930'. In a quarter calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Loss to the bottom edge of both volumes. Light discolouration to the boards and spines.
