First edition published in 1848. This work explores different aspects of Dartmoor, with chapters on early inhabitants, monumental relics and birds of the moor, amongst many others. With twenty-five plates and four additional large folding maps to the rear of the work. Collated, complete.Illustrated by English artist, Frederick John Widgery, who was known for his landscapes and coastal scenery.With a dedication of the first edition included, to His Royal Highness, Albert, Prince of Wales. Rebound in red cloth with renewed endpapers. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the occasional light mark.
