Beschreibung
London : George Philip & Son, circa 1928. Terrestrial globe 12 inches in diameter, printed gores over papier mache base, graduated equator band, supported on a contemporary half-meridian engraved brass stand on original turned wooden base and three feet, some old surface rubbing, a very good example, completely unrestored and in original condition. An interesting interwar terrestrial globe, with Ukraine as a separate region, delineating French West Africa and French Indochina (Annam), as well as outlining the puppet state of Manchuria, and the Italian Somali Coast. The globe names Leningrad, as it was renamed in 1924 (Petrograd is included in brackets), and the Turkish city is named as Constantinople, prior to the name change to Istanbul in 1930. The short lived Australian territory of 'Central Australia' (1927 - 1931) is shown on the globe. A fine, handsome English table globe from the interwar period, unrestored with an appealing patina.
