The Philosophy of Natural History. By William Smellie and printed in Dover, New Hampshire by Thomas & Tappan & Samuel Bragg. 1808, 552 pp, 8.25 x 5.25 , 8vo, hardcover full leather. In good condition, with minor rubbing and wear to leather on boards and spine. Ex-libris bookplate and light marginalia to front of book. Some wear and cracking to head of spine. HInges remain in good condition with minor wear towards front and text block is bound well. Staining around edges of pages. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece and early Dover, New Hampshire imprint by William Smellie (1740-1795), a Scottish antiquary and naturalist who edited the first editon of Encyclopedia Britannica.
