Beschreibung
The band and dance invitation was to be held at Woolsey Hall on March 17, 1881. Brass bands were a major point of civic pride as the cities became centers of business as well as agriculture but also of major social events. (See the Library of Congress overview on the American Brass Band Movement). The recipient of the invitation was Lincoln Fowler who was the major person in developing the canals and irrigation systems in Maricopa County. He testified many times before Congress regarding the need to extend water to the valley of the sun. His lengthy testimony about the use of canals both in his own extensive experience and for the future anticipated needs that would eventually be met in the Central Arizona Project. Testifying before the Senate, he noted that with cooperation with the rest of the Western States, the desert could indeed blossom as a rose. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 018843
