Beschreibung
Oblong octavo measuring 7.5" x 6". Black textured cloth over stiff paper boards. Contains 254 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 3.5" x 4" with captions. Very good album with detached but present first page, tears on the spine ends and worn edges with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a family beginning in 1908 in various places in the U.S. and Canada. The first pages show views of Brighton Bridge in Ohio and portraits of a fashionably dressed upper middle class woman in a photo strip style print. One of these photos shows her posed with a telephone. Following this are photos of Cincinnati University and Burnet Woods. The family then traveled to Niagara Falls with photos of the falls and a woman "viewing rapids above falls." They also observed the falls from various points including Terrapin Point, Goat Island, Prospect Park, and Luna Island. One section of photos shows the Canadian Power House and views of the falls from that point. Another photo from Buffalo, New York reads "here President McKinley died." Another photos shows three fashionably dressed women in a car in 1908 and reads "seeing Buffalo." They went boating on the Ontario River, swam at Alexandria Bay, and went to Thousand Islands. Other photos shows friends and family posed around vacation houses and in fields with captions reading "who said smile?" and "my! But we're dry!" The women are photographed in posed shots with parasols and fancy dresses in a garden with captions such as "a consultation," "a lesson in botany?," and "good news." In 1909 they visited West Virginia with photos of farms and captioned such as "hayseed." One photo of four women reads "what's wrong with the mamas." The end of the album takes place in Dayton, Ohio with more photos of the family posed around a farm with captioned such as "who said mulberries?," "wish I were there too!," and "how did you do this?" A nice collection of travel photographs featuring the United States and Canada at the turn-of-the-century. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 411918
