Beschreibung
Oblong small quarto measuring 11" x 7". Screw bound green paper boards with "photographs" stamped on the front board. Contains 128 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 2" and 4" x 6.5" with some captions. Very good album with short tears and rubbing with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a young man while working with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. He was involved with a unit stationed at Pinto Lake, California, (SCS-8), and includes extensive photo documentation of himself and colleagues working on projects around the lake. The photos show the men working, in camp, playing with their dog, and posed in group photos at various job sites. The men dug trenches, worked with machines, and played games such as a three legged race, pictured here. One photo shows an action shot of an explosion, another shows a shot of Grauman's Chinese Theatre presumably on a leisurely trip out of camp. The CCC began working in 1933 and is considered the most popular of the New Deal programs. The Corps was available to unmarried men ages 18-25 who were members of relief families. As members of the CCC they earned $30 a month wage, $25 of which was to be sent home, and were also provided with housing, food, and clothing. As a program the agency was responsible for helping to reforest the United States, constructing state parks, as well as building roads and sewer lines in remote areas, and other public works. An interesting collection of photographs depicting the lives, friendships, and projects of a California CCC man. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 414764
