Beschreibung
Oblong quarto measuring 12" x 7.5". String-tied brown cloth with "fotografs" and an illustration stamped on the front board. Contains 363 sepia toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 5" x 7" with captions. Very good album with some removed photographs, worn edges, and some curling with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a young woman in Maine beginning in 1928. The album opens with photos of the woman and friends on a farm and a nearby pond before picnicking on Norcross Pond. Women are photographed posed together with humorous captions such as "what a smile," "Ooooo," and "digestive exercise." That fall they watched planes at the Portland Airport and attended a "weenie roast" on the beach. They visited Salisbury Beach and took walks in their heavy coats with captions reading "a very pleasant weekend." One section of photos documents "Raymond's first deer" and shows the young woman with male companions and a deer strapped to the front of their car. The compiler worked as a teacher and includes a few pages of yearbook style portraits of young students, including a few African-American students, as well as students in classes and on the playground. Over Thanksgiving in 1929 they went to see an air show which included "The Green Flash" pictured here, as well as "Yellow Bird" and a "hazard plane." They visited Canada and went camping and are photographed boating on a pond by their campsite. One section of photo shows women posing in silly ways and drinking from bottles during a picnic. In 1930 they took a trip to Washington, D.C. where they went sightseeing and photographed the Potomac River. The album ends with photos from Christmas in 1932 and portraits of a young man in 1933 as well as two more pages of student photographs. A nice collection of a young woman's life in Maine between 1928 and 1933. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 411958
