Oblong small quarto measuring 11" x 8". String-tied black textured cloth over stiff paper boards with "photographs" stamped on the front boards. Contains 315 black and white or sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring around 3" x 5" without captions. Album is very good with worn corners with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a New England family in the 1920s. The album contains the initials R.E.T. and labels this as "Album #1" but doesn't have any captions after that. The photos show images of a summer spent boating, bicycling, and visiting friends. The family is seen posing around family homes sporting fashionable clothes and hats. One photo shows two women doing yardwork, another shows a young man holding up a fish. They are also pictured seated on rocks by the seaside, fishing, and posed on the beach. They also photographed passing ships including large military vessels. Numerous photos show cars with people driving and posed outside of them. One group of photos was taken at Jacob's Spring and shows the group at a log cabin souvenir shop and posed by their car. They also photographed the landscapes in the various places they visited, including expansive fields, waterfalls, farms, and wooded areas. A military parade is also featured with men on horses carrying American flags, a float for the American Legion, and marching soldiers. Another parade shows the entrance of the Barnum and Bailey circus. One section of photos shows a trip to Washington D.C. with photos of the Washington Monument, the Mall, and the Lincoln Memorial. Towards the end of the album the family celebrates a wedding with snap shots of the bridal party posed on the front lawn.
