Beschreibung
Oblong small quarto measuring 10" x 7". Brown leather over flexible paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 130 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between .5" x .5" and 3.5" x 5.5" with captions. Good album with tape repairs, chips, and some tears with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by New Jersey native, Henry J. Kuehls, beginning in 1908. The album follows him and his family while during camping trips and vacations in the area. It opens with images from "Spider Camp" at Camp Haspruwigewax in 1908 and shows various summers spent there. This appears to have been a boy's camp and shows boys on the shores of a lake, in tents, and boating. One of the photos shows the boys in a boat with the caption, "Washington crossing the Delaware, July 1909 Camp Haspruwigewax Burlington Island." Another photo from 1910 shows a sleeping camper and reads, "nothing so restful as nature." Some of the boys are dressed as Native Americans and one of these photos shows two boys shaking hands which reads, "Peace - Dead Shot Dick & Sitting Bull." Photos from 1912 show another encampment in the Alleghany Mountains with a wonderful photo of the boys around a camp fire. Kuehls was also a part of a baseball team, the Olney Colts, featured here in team photos and action shots of a game. Other images include family photos and trips to local attractions including a trip to Washington D.C. and the Hudson River. Another vacation took the Kuehls to Wildwood, New Jersey where they spent time at a beach cottage. A nice collection of photographs following a young man at various camp sites and vacations with his family between 1908 and 1912. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 421354
