Beschreibung
Oblong small quarto measuring 11" x 7". String-tied brown cloth over flexible paper boards. Contains 250 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2.5" x 3.5" and 3.5" x 4.5" with some captions. Most pages are detached thus very good with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by a family between 1925 and 1933 with vacation photography as well as vernacular family home images. The early images show wintery scenes of dogs and children running through snow as well as landscape photographs of farms. There are photos of horseback riding, dogs running, and herds of sheep. Many of the photos show trips to Colorado with images of Pike's Peak, hiking, and snow capped mountains. One caption from a hike reads, "the view from Broadmore Hill, South of Cheyenne School." Other views are from Austin Bluff and Stage Road. The natural beauty of Colorado Spring's is seen throughout these photos with images of trees, lakes, creeks, and the various mountain roads. Interspersed throughout the album are photos of various family members posing around homes along with children playing. There are also photos of the family farm including workers and farm animals and views of various crops. Additionally there are portrait style images of a young woman and her friend posing around the farm. Others show the elderly matriarch of the family and her husband with grandchildren and animals. One interesting group of photos shows a man and a woman outside using a tree stump as a table and furiously typing on typewriters in some sort of typing contest. The family continued to visit Colorado annually through 1933 often enjoying the Colorado Springs area. A group of photos towards the end of the album have been combined to create a panoramic photo of the mountain ranges with captions labeling each peak. Besides farm work members of the family were also involved in medical professions, (a professional portrait photo of a woman in a full nurse uniform is also seen here), and the military, a photo of two navy men is also present. An extensive account of a farm family in the 1920s and 30s and their trips to Colorado. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 404718
