Beschreibung
Oblong folio measuring 15" x 11.5". String-tied cream leather over stiff paper boards. Contains 382 sepia-toned and black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 8" x 10" with captions. Rear board detached but present, short tears, and edgewear thus very good album with near fine photographs. An extensive photo album kept by a New Jersey woman following her time spent with family and friends before and after the war as well as images of friend's World War II service as well. The album is not in chronological order and starts with a 4th of July picnic in 1945 at Pakim Pond. They are featured on the beach, posed in bathing costumes, eating watermelon, and swimming. Pakim Pond was a frequently visited place by the family as they return for numerous summers and even spend Thanksgiving 1946 there. The album ends with another section of family photographs from before the war. These included her graduating class with images of smiling classmates on the steps of the school. Other images show baby photos, candids of friends, and summers spent swimming at Ramsey, New Jersey. Towards the end of the album the compiler is photographed on an airfield with the caption "after my first airplane ride!! Wow!!" Other images include herself with her church choir and a friend's wedding. After a break the album has a 16 page section titled "World War II 1943" and features 104 photographs including portraits of various servicemen during the war with their name and rank captioned beneath it. It appears these men were friends with the compiler and she had been sent photos of them while they were serving. Friends and boyfriends sent her portraits, candids, and photos from their various tours of duty. A large collection of photographs in this section are taken by a soldier stationed in Japan, possibly the compiler's boyfriend. These images show street scenes in a small town, a beggar, cemetery, fishing, and other views of the country. One is captioned "some Jap fishing boats," another reads, "sinking of mine encountered upon entrance and Nagoya Bay." Other photographs show time spent in England with one captioned "bombed area in London, England hit by German V-1 Bomb Oct. 2, 1944." An interesting collection of photographs detailing a young woman's life during the 1940s and her friend's war service. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 424752
