A young couple's family and travel photo album kept between 1917 and 1927 following their trip to California and return home to Detroit, Michigan. The couple, Mary Heyen and her husband, are seen going about their daily lives working at W.T. Gregg and Paige's Automobile shop in Detroit. Heyen's husband also worked for several other auto dealers in the area and they eventually are seen with their very own automobile. Most of the earlier photographs are of the Heyen's friends a family, either posed or candid shots. These photographs show both the male and female fashion trends of the time, with women wearing embellished dresses and men in full suits with caps. One photo shows two very dapper gentlemen standing together captioned, "Shorty Laughton and Black Bookkeeper." Another set of photographs feature the party dresses and wedding dress from a friend's outdoor wedding. The latter half of the album is comprised of photographs from the couple's trip to California to meet up with their friends Howard and Helen. They stop in a couple of different state parks, cities, and states along the way including Iowa City, Winthrop, Devils Backbone State Park, Ellis park, Colorado, the Grand Canyon, Santa Monica, and Culver City. Along the way, the Heyen's take multiple pictures of the city architecture, roads, and wilderness they pass. One picture has the pair peering over a cliff high up on a mountain in Colorado. The album continues with the Heyen's spending time with their friends in and around the city until they depart home. During the return trip home, the Heyen's pass through Pasadena, Snoqualmie Falls in Washington, Vancouver in Canada, Oregon, and Minnesota before ending back in Detroit. There are a few pictures of the waterfalls in Washington that are particularly well-composed. There are multiple shots of the car breaking down, "We lived on tire trouble all the way home." As well as some flooding to the roads and tornados that had torn through Minnesota, but otherwise the Heyen's returned to their home safely with final pictures captioned, "My little nurse," "Sweet peas," and "Punkin." A charming collection of travel and daily life photographs from a young couple living in Detroit, Michigan from 1917 through to 1927. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 422721
