A B&W photograph described as taking place during the awarding of the Distinguished Service Cross, to Red Cross nurse Jane Jeffery during World War 1. Jeffery was one of only 5 or 6 female recipients of this award during WW1. A note on the back states: "Jane Jeffery / Red Cross Nurse / being photographed following award of Distinguished Service Cross for bravery in France. Was wounded while assisting in operations on British Troops [?] by explosion of aerial bomb dropped in a German air raid." The corners of the photograph are a bit bumped, with some faint creasing at the lower right margin, just touching the image. There is a bit of fading; mostly at the top and right edges.
