Decorative illustrated title page + blank + Full Title page + blank + xvi (inc 1 plate) + part title page + plate (No 1) + 190 pages (inc 44 plates. No 2 to 45). Condition; Full antique leather binding, fair/good, wear/worn, a little edge loss, gild embossed decorated & titled spine with a little edge loss. Contents, mostly Good, clean & tight, inside front cover is an owners bookplate (decorative M I?). a few minor inscriptions front, inc owner name top of 2 title pages, a few corner tip folds, page 23/4 with finger corner loss, not effecting illustration/plate, some minor ageing etc., re-glued at sometime as so tight. As usual collation not easy as some page numbers or plate number is sometimes hard to see or just wrong. This copy has the 45 full page plates + 1 other full page plate + the Decorative illustrated title page + about 26 small illustrations & designs within. Herman Hugo (1588-1629),was a Brussels Jesuit, plates are believed to be by Boëce van Bolswert. Emblems/Pia Desideria was believed to be the most popular religious emblem book of the 17th century, and was published all over Europe, mostly in Latin like this copy though mostly Holland, this copy being published in Paris. Herman Hugo first edition, was published in Latin at Antwerp in 1624. Herman Hugo (1588-1629),was a Brussels Jesuit.
