London .Originally I thought that this second edition was published in 1919 but the inscription says otherwise . My thoughts are that of the 5000 copies printed as stated on the copyright page of the second edition only a few copies survived the war. There may have been a warehouse fire and as a result the publisher printed a further 2000 copies for the christmas market .Completely hypothetical of course but there has to be some explanation why so few copies turn up . The second edition is a fragile item with a loose binding so when it does turn up and I've only seen three copies its normally damaged .This copy is in good nick in fact almost fine which makes it rare .It comes with a facsimile of the first which may well have been the same but I suspect the price would have been reduced to 2/- or possibly even 1/9.Somewhere along the line there would have been a colonial .We have no idea how many copies were distributed with the herbert Jenkins Colonial sticker but it is possible that these were the copies that survived as they would have been despatched some weeks prior to the release in the UK. I have never seen a library copy so I dont think the few copies that have surfaced came from that source .I live in the hope that a first will surface in a small provincial bookshop in New Zealand with a sticker.
