First edition. Large 4to, [xx], 256 pp, incl. map of Mexico. Beautiful, archtypal photos of Mexico, reproduced and printed in Germany by the photogravure (heliogravure) process, which gives them a richly-toned chiaroscuro. Each page has a photo, labeleld in 5 European languages. Brehme moved to Mexico in 1908 and lived there til his death in 1958. He travelled extensively throughout the country making his photos, which show the country in its most romantic aspect. His photos of Mexico have become much sought after, with retrospectives of his work in Mexico and Germany, as well as a recent study of his photos.
