This is an early vintage edition of Playbill Magazine (Vol. 1, March 1964, No. 2) for a musical revue starring Josephine Baker, the legendary black performer who was a sensation during the Jazz Age in Paris. This was a return engagement at Henry Miller's Theatre on Broadway with Carmen de Lavallade and Geoffrey Holder with The Tel Aviv Dancers, in addition to the star - Josephine Baker. Also included in this Playbill is a unique Hirschfeld drawing of Carol Channing as Lady Macbeth in a feature titled "Unlikely Casting" (it seems that this was intended to be the first in a series). Other articles: on Arthur Miller; on the playwright at work: Arnold Wesker; on Paris; and on "The Theatrical Phenomenon" by Jean Louis Barrault. Vintage ads, especially for cars, and ads for other cast albums (LPs) from shows like 'Funny Girl' and 'Hello Dolly'. Cover shows a b/w photo of Josephine Baker in a fabulous gown and feathered headdress. Slight fraying at one point above one staple, light browning with age of cover edges, small bend in one corner of back cover, date of show (3/64) in-obtrusively written in ink on the front cover. None of these have any impact on an otherwise great item in wonderful condition for its age. BONUS item included: A biography of Baker, titled "Jazz Cleopatra" by Phyllis Rose (paperback, Vintage edition, 1989, 321 pages, b/w illustrations, vintage photographs).
