Master the Lap Steel Guitar — Even If You've Never Played a Musical Instrument Before
Have you ever wanted to play the lap steel guitar but felt intimidated by complicated techniques? The lap steel is one of the most expressive instruments a beginner can pick up — especially when it is tuned to Open G, where every fret produces a major chord and almost anything you play sounds musical from the very first day.
Playing Lap Steel Guitar for Beginners is your complete, step-by-step guide to mastering the 6-string lap steel from the ground up. Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to music after years away, this book will take you from never having held a lap steel to playing complete melodies with confidence.
What You Will Learn Inside:

• How to hold the bar and wear the picks — proper posture, hand position, and your very first sound
• Open G tuning and the fretboard — find every note you need, from the open strings to the twelfth fret
• Bar technique and sliding — move the bar smoothly between frets without losing tone or pitch
• Picking, muting, and rhythm — pluck cleanly with thumb and finger picks, and control unwanted string noise
• Reading lap steel tablature — simple notation that lets you play any melody in the book
• Slides, vibrato, and expression — the techniques that make the lap steel sing, cry, and glide
• Playing with backing tracks and others — how to jam with recordings, friends, and local sessions
• Troubleshooting guide — fix buzzing, scraping, tuning problems, and common beginner issues

Includes a Complete 30-Day Practice Plan
You will not just learn techniques — you will follow a structured, day-by-day plan that takes you from your first note to your first full performance in just 30 days. Each day builds on the last, with clear goals and achievable milestones.

Why the Lap Steel Is Perfect for Beginners
The lap steel guitar is unique: in Open G tuning, the open strings already form a G major chord. Lay the bar across any fret, and you get a major chord in a new key. Add a simple slide, and you are playing real music on your very first day.
This book is written specifically for the 6-string lap steel guitar in standard Open G tuning — the most common and versatile beginner tuning. Every exercise, melody, chord chart, and technique is designed to work perfectly with your instrument.
