A splendid edition of Mrs. Hemans' poetical works, stunningly bound by the published, Gall & Inglis. Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was an English poet, writing during the late Romantic period. Her first poetry was published in 1808 when she was only fourteen, and attracted the attention of renowned Romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. Marriage and motherhood did not slow down her literary career, and she published several volumes while raising five sons. She released many commercially successful and highly considered volumes, with the likes of Wordsworth holding her in high regard; her work was particularly popular and inspirational for women. Her most famous poem is 'Casabianca', published in 1826 and depicting the captain of a ship during the Battle of the Nile.With a lovely decorated inlay on the front cover depicting an angel with a lyre.Illustrated with colourful decorative borders around the poetry, a frontispiece illustration and four plates. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine, which is slightly cocked. Ownership inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally generally firmly bound, with the front hinge a little exposed but firm. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
