Beschreibung
A collection of poetry by some Early Modern English poets collected and published by the Galignani Brothers who established a sort of English reading room where expatriates and visitors could pay to sit and read or chat. The copyright treaty of 1852 put an end to the reprinting of English books but the brothers continued to publish and died millionaires. This is an early work of theirs containing the poetical offerings of some popular poets of the early 1800s including Samuel Rogers, Thomas Campbell, James Montgomery, Charles Lamb and Henry Kirk White. There is a nice Frontispiece of the five poets portraits and a pretty vignette on the title page of a harp and other instruments. There is foxing throughout the volume but otherwise, very nice edition.Good Condition: 8vo: full leather with gilt rectangle outline and black label with gilt lettering (Teddesley) on front: cracked hinge: scuffs to edges and bends: ridged and banded spine with gilt decorations in the compartments along with black labels with gilt lettering having title and authors: marbled edges all around with matching marbled endpapers: foxing throughout: Poetical Works of Rogers, Campbell, J.
