This anthology of poems from world renown poets was typed as a submission to Harcourt and published in book form in 1934. It includes a section header: "The Definition of Poetry". Typed poems from Robert Frost, the Rosetti's, Dickinson, Hardy, Sandburg and Untermeyer himself. Louis Untermeyer (1885 - 1977) was a mostly self-taught Poet, but a fierce promoter of the craft, anthologist, editor and appointed the 16th Consultant of Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1961. He befriended many celebrity authors including Arthur Miller and Robert Frost. An incident in 1951 caused him to be investigated by the House Committee on Un-American Activities and become blacklisted by the entertainment industry, including being removed from the television show, "What's My Line" "Poetry is founded on surprise: the surprise of recognizing that was there but something we failed to notice.
