Beschreibung
Two volumes, of several poetry collections by the labouring class poet, Robert Bloomfield. Several volumes of Bloomfield's works bound together across two volumes.Comprising: 'The Farmer's boy' (1820), the fourteenth edition; 'Rural Tales Ballads and Songs' (1826), the tenth edition; 'May Day With The Muses' (1822), the second edition; 'The Banks of Wye A Poem' (1823), the third edition; 'Hazelwood-Hall, A Village Drama' (1823).Prior owners' inscriptions to the recto of front endpaper to both volumes, Allen Freer dated 1949 and Mar Rightman dated 1826. Printed poem to the verso of front endpaper to volume II. From the library of Allen and Beryl Freer. The Freers were avid art collectors, and acquired quite the selection over the twentieth century, of works mostly bought from the artists. Allen organised many exhibitions of artists he admired and published several works on art.Bloomfield is a well-remembered labouring class poet. He is looked upon favourably with other self-educated writers such as Stephen Duck, Mary Collier and John Clare.A wonderful opportunity to own early editions of Robert Bloomfield's works. In full calf bindings. Externally, sound. Light rubbing to the raised bands and to the joints. Top and bottom of spine to volume I is lifting. Splits to the joints, with the front hinge to volume II tender. Small loss to the spine label. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges. The odd spot to pages. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 744L4
