This was the official publication of the Bostwick Field Polo Club Westbury, Long Island; the Bethpage Polo Club, Farmingdale, Long Island; and the Fairfield County Hunt Club Polo Association, Westport, CT. Cover and other illustrations by Paul Brown. Very good plus condition. The original owner has filled in the chart of results of the August 3, 1947 World?s Handicap Championship Tournament in ink on page 18. Light vertical crease. The magazine contains feature articles on George Herbert ?Pete? Bostwick, an American polo player and world-class steeplechase rider who won the U.S. Open Polo Championship trophy six times ? twice at Bostwick Field; activities of the Bethpage Polo Club including players and awards; the Fairfield Country Hunt Club, including history, players and recent matches; 1947 handicaps; the pony?s job in a match; he top three handicap-rated poloists in the U.S. at the time ? Michael G. Phipps, Stewart B. Iglehart and Cecil Smith; and field rules and penalties. Images of Bostwick, Thomas Hitchcock, Jr, Walter Devereux (who built the Hotel Coronado), actress Gene Tierney presenting awards, and many other accomplished players.
