Library stamps to the title page of each volume, reads 'National Library Club'. James Caulfield was a English author and printseller, as well as a publisher and editor. Setting up as a printseller in Strand, back by his father, gaining enough success to move to a larger premises, in Leicester Square. Each Remarkable person has a corresponding portrait. Two plates appear to have been removed, those being James Macleane, Highwayman, Volume IV, 87pp and William Ellis, Volume I, 94pp. No collation available. In half morocco binding with marbled plates. Externally, smart. Minor rubbing to the spines, of each volume, most noticeable to the head of volume II. Slight crease to the spine of volume II, to the tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have some agetoning, and there is spotting throughout each volume. The occasional watermark throughout each volume, mainly to the tail. Offsetting throughout each volume, due to the plates.
