Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

James Thin, Edinburgh, 1886, first edition; large 8vo, 155 x 230mm; brown grained cloth with spine gilt and black stamped borders to the front cover; slight rubbing to the spine edges and at the head and foot; penciled ownership inscription and note on purchase background on the recto of the second front fly and a partial index, also in pencil, on the back fly; generally a clean, sound copy; 13 plates or letterpress illustrations. . . . The book is in two sections. The first covers leading events in Scottish banking history that have related to the one pound note and including a few pages on the law regarding paper currency, the note exchange system and the manufacture of bank notes. The second section claims to be an attempt from experience to show the adaptability of small notes to the English banking system.
