A comprehensive two-volume work on Prague; written Julius Maximilian Schottky (1797-1849), a German writer and historian. The first volume deals with the Old Town (Staré Mesto), Jewish Town (Josefov) and New Town (Nové Mesto); the second deals with the Lesser Town (Mala Strana), Castle District (Hradcany), Vysehrad and various public institutions. Both volumes contain an engraved title made Georg Döbler (1788-1845) after drawings by Josef Schembera (1794-1866) and Werner (?). The first volume contains 3 plates with steel engravings (vistas of Hradcany/Lesser Town, St. Vitus Cathedral and Vysehrad; made by Christian Duttenhofer and Döbler after drawings by Josef Schembera and Werner) and a fold-out map of Prague and its vicinity, engraved by Carl Kettner. Five plates (steel engravings) and a map of Prague are missing; both title pages are missing (probably never bound into volumes; only engraved titles are preserved). /// Cloth binding with paper label; hardback, XII+427, 3 plates, 1 map, VIII+546 pp., 8° (13 x 20 cm), covers worn and faded, front free endpaper has call number written with pen, some pages slightly yellowed, ca. 30 leaves have water stain (see photo), pages only rarely have small fingerprints, foxing, marginalia or small brown spots, plates foxed, with edge wear and small tears, one plate chipped (tiny part is missing), fold-out map has a few small tears and old water stain along upper edge (see photo), condition: fair Book Language/s: German.
