4 in. x 5 1/2 in., engraved title-page with the Price of Wales emblem, followed by the elaborate, calligraphic engraved dedication page, and 14 engraved plates, which are the pages of engraved text, with engraving on one side only. Bound in full, old speckled calf with four raised bands on the spine, each with double-line gilt borders to the bands, and across the upper and lower spine, book cover edges show gilt-tooling, book edges are sprinkled red. This type of binding is contemporary with the engraved text. Spine ends and cover corners and edges show some wear, rubbing. The front cover shows the title: Precedency, written out in ink, and an ink stain above this inscription, endpapers show age-related tanning, some tanning, dusting to title-page, plate (page) margins. One of the few books published in England, where the entire text was printed from copperplate engravings; the dedication page shows several types of calligraphic writing, that was carefully engraved. Joseph Edmondson, was an amateur genealogist, who was employed in painting heraldic coats-of-arms on carriage doors; in 1764 he was created Mowbray herald extraordinary, and was also elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
