Two volumes, 8vo, contemporary speckled mid-brown calf, the boards with gilt double fillet, the spines with raised bands with gilt double fillet lines, original lettering piece but later (not recent) numbering piece, trimmed armorial bookplate on both pastedowns. Hinges cracked; tips of corners exposed; extremities and spine rather rubbed. VOLUME 1: frontispiece, 17 plates (2 folding), pp advertisements, xviii, [viii], 365pp, verso blank, 1pp advert, verso blank. Small, neat, inscription on upper margin title-page (just the name on vol 2's title-page); two zeros inked in pp12; upper margins a little dust stained; some occasional browning, especially of plates; printer's overlay changing 'without' to 'and' pp89; rust hole affecting 2 letters recto pp121. VOLUME 2: frontispiece, folding map, 11 plates, xviii [2pp table of contents inserted after A3, between dedication and preface], 363 pp advert. Lower corner C3 and C4 cropped partly affecting one letter; pp98 paper fault in fore-margin; upper margins a little dust stained; some browning, especially of plates. A slightly shabby set but complete in near contemporary binding. [Mendelssohn 1, pp844].
