Giuseppe Gazola (1661-1715) was an Italian physician, best remembered today for the present work. Frist published posthumously in 1716 as Il Mondo Ingannato da Falsi Medici, it went through numerous editions and was translated into several European language, including Spanish and Dutch. In the essay Gazola vehemently attacks traditional Galenic medicine, which, according to the author, often does more harm than good.
