8vo [20x13cm]. pp8. partially interleaved. soiling to end-papers, with tear to foot of front free end-paper, otherwise internally clean. quarter calf over marbled boards binding badly worn and joints very weak. This printed price list was issued shortly after the sale of the magnificent art collection formed by the Dutch collector Pieter de Smeth van Alphen. Comprising lot number, name of the artist, buyer's name and price realised in Dutch guilders. The buyers were mostly art dealers, and in addition to the printed names, this unique copy contains manuscript marginalia recording the names for whom the dealers were buying, often other well known continental art dealers. It also identifies the eighteen lots that were unsold 'opgehoode', but listed in the printed price list as being knocked down to the Dutch art dealer De Vries. Also, three lots are identified as ending up in the British Royal collection; including lot 82, by Rembrandt ["Shipbuilder and His Wife"], the second highest priced lot, bought in the sale by the Dutch art dealer Theodorus Spaan, acting on behalf of the renowned French dealer Lafontaine, who sold it in London to the Prince Regent the following year.
