Inhaltsangabe: What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be...well...a lot less than the man of her dreams?
As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the "S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. But as a grown-up he discovered that the boring parts were left out of good old Dad's recitation, and only the "good parts" reached his ears.
Now Goldman does Dad one better. He's reconstructed the "Good Parts Version" to delight wise kids and wide-eyed grownups everywhere.
What's it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex.
In short, it's about everything.
Eventually to be adapted for the silver screen, THE PRINCESS BRIDE was originally a beautifully simple, insightfully comic story of what happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince in the world--and he turnsout to be a son of a bitch. Guaranteed to entertain both young and old alike by combining scenes of rowsing fantasy with hilarious reality, THE PRINCESS BRIDE secures Goldman's place as a master storyteller.
Review: The Princess Bride is a true fantasy classic. William Goldman describes it as a "good parts version" of "S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure." Morgenstern's original was filled with details of Florinese history, court etiquette, and Mrs. Morgenstern's mostly complimentary views of the text. Much admired by academics, the "Classic Tale" nonetheless obscured what Mr. Goldman feels is a story that has everything: "Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautifulest ladies. Snakes. Spiders. Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passion. Miracles."
Goldman frames the fairy tale with an "autobiographical" story: his father, who came from Florin, abridged the book as he read it to his son. Now, Goldman is publishing an abridged version, interspersed with comments on the parts he cut out.
Is The Princess Bride a critique of classics like Ivanhoe and The Three Musketeers, that smother a ripping yarn under elaborate prose? A wry look at the differences between fairy tales and real life? Simply a funny, frenetic adventure? No matter how you read it, you'll put it on your "keeper" shelf. --Nona Vero

Buchbeschreibung N.Y. / New York: Ballantine Books, 1974, 1st Paperback Edition, First Printing, New York, NY, 1974. Soft Cover. Buchzustand: Good (see description). Ted Coconis Cover Art (illustrator). First Edition. -----------paperback, a solid Fair to Good copy, external wear with some creases on the spine and covers, edge wear, faint creases, a bit of age toning to the paper and verso of the covers, tape repairs to the edges of the front cover, small nicks at spine tips, --- attractive cover art by Ted Coconis -a unique cover illustration that IMHO does not really have much bearing on the story ---well, I certainly don't remember Princess Buttercup being nude with an eagle on her head as she is surrounded by snakes and ghouls and other beings ---still a nice edition ---, this paperback edition (like the 1st hardcover edition) has the text in black and red with the red sections being Goldman's interjections and "edits" ---- I betcha this is a kissing book ( wuv, twoo wuv ---maywidge is what bwings us together todaaaaaay ), includes Goldman's original 1973 introduction ---if you haven't seen the movie (well, first of all -SHAME ON YOU! ) of The PRINCESS BRIDE starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Chris Sarandon and Mandy Patinkin ( My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die! ) is a super movie that is incredibly funny and honours the book oh so well, read the book ---you won't be disappointed, an uncommon edition, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo.
