A smart second edition of this fictionalised account of a bookseller's experiences in a new town, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Second edition, revised. A fictional account of the life of a bookseller as he moves to a new town and takes over their bookselling business. Exploring his lack of business experience and subsequent trouble with the bank and creditors. Published anonymously. Written by Sir William Young Darling, a British politician and the Unionist Member of Parliament in the British House of Commons for the Edinburgh South constituency. He was a director of the Royal Bank of Scotland for fifteen years. From the library of Christopher Foyle, a British philanthropist and the chairman of the famous Foyle's Bookshop in London. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing and minor fading to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and minor chipping resulting in minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Small closed tears to the panel edges with the odd 1" closed tear. Sunning to the spine with the odd small mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate and contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good Indeed.
